SQE audiobooks give you another way to revisit a topic when opening a textbook is inconvenient. The useful part comes after listening: can you explain the principle without a prompt and use it in a fresh question? This guide gives you a practical SQE audio revision routine, a way to check your progress and a plan for trying one month of audiobooks in the FQPS Android app.
- Use audio for a defined topic: choose what you want to recall before pressing play.
- Finish with a check: summarise the rule from memory, then use a question to test its application.
- Keep substantial practice: audiobooks complement question practice, mocks and written or oral work.
- Try a month free: download the FQPS Android app and get one month of SQE audiobooks free. The iOS app is coming soon.
What are SQE audiobooks useful for?
SQE audiobooks and audio revision materials let you revisit explanations by listening. They can fit into a commute, a walk or a break when a reading session would be awkward. That makes them a useful option for candidates balancing preparation with work and other commitments.
Choose a narrow purpose for each session. “Revisit the rule I missed yesterday” gives you something to check afterwards. “Listen to as much law as possible” is harder to evaluate. If the topic is new or difficult, leave time to read the accompanying material before treating it as something you know.
Different resources serve different purposes. A podcast may introduce an issue or discuss exam preparation; an audiobook or audio revision chapter may offer more structured topic coverage. Check the content description, coverage and update information rather than assuming every recording is a complete learning resource.
Where does audio fit into an SQE study day?
Revisit a weak topic
Choose a topic from your error log, listen to the relevant explanation and prepare a question you want to resolve.
Return to a principle
Use a short chapter to revisit something you have already studied. Make a note afterwards of what remains uncertain.
Repair the gap
Go back to the relevant section after an incorrect answer, then try explaining the point without the recording.
Audio is not the best format for every task. Detailed calculations, comparing documents and working through a dense written problem may need your full attention and something you can inspect on screen. Move those tasks into a separate study block.
If you are driving, keep your attention on the road and leave notes, questions and app controls until you are safely parked. The recall step can wait until the journey is over.
A 20-minute SQE audio revision routine
The timings below are a suggested starting point. Shorten the listening section if the material is dense, or continue in a separate session if it raises a gap you need to work through.
- Minutes 0–2 · ChooseSet one question for the session.Use a topic from your practice mistakes. Write what you want to explain by the end.
- Minutes 2–12 · ListenFocus on a short section.Pause between ideas when you can do so safely. Notice the conditions and exceptions that change the result.
- Minutes 12–15 · RecallClose the material and explain it.Say or write the rule in your own words. Include a fact that would change its application.
- Minutes 15–20 · ApplyAttempt a relevant practice question.Read the explanation, log the gap and decide what to revisit. Allow more time if the review needs it.
“What could I explain now that I could not explain before the recording?” If the answer is unclear, choose a smaller section next time and check it against your revision material.
A worked example: from a missed question to a listening task
Suppose you miss a practice question because you recognised the general principle but overlooked a condition in the facts. Your next audio session should target that condition, rather than restarting the whole subject.
| Step | What you do | What you keep |
|---|---|---|
| Find the gap | Read the question explanation and name the condition you missed. | A specific learning question. |
| Listen selectively | Locate the relevant explanation in your audio material. | A chapter or section to return to. |
| Explain the distinction | Describe how the outcome could change if that condition were absent. | Two sentences in your own words. |
| Test again | Attempt an unfamiliar question on the topic when one is available. | The result, your confidence and the next action. |
The point is to create a connection between listening and a decision you need to make in practice. Completing a chapter is an activity; explaining and applying its content gives you more useful evidence of understanding.

A free account also includes five daily practice questions, ten daily flashcards, one full FLK1 mock and one full FLK2 mock, a sample syllabus and a seven-day study plan. Use that practice to check understanding rather than judging your progress only by listening time. Other access depends on your plan.
How to use your first month of SQE audio revision
Give the month a practical purpose: find out whether listening helps you return to topics and resolve gaps. The plan below is a suggested trial routine, not a four-week course or a promise to cover the syllabus.
| Week | Focus | Review at the end |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Establish | Choose familiar topics and find a realistic listening slot. | Did the slot work, and could you summarise the sections afterwards? |
| 2 · Target | Choose sections using mistakes from recent question practice. | Which gaps did the explanations help you resolve? |
| 3 · Revisit | Return to earlier topics without looking at your summary first. | What could you still explain, and what needed another review? |
| 4 · Evaluate | Review your notes and practice alongside your wider study plan. | Where did audio help, and which tasks still need reading, questions or feedback? |
If you keep getting the same point wrong, change the method. Read the relevant section, draw the sequence, work through another example or seek clarification. Replaying the same explanation without a new check can leave the underlying misunderstanding untouched.
Can you listen on Android, iPhone or iPad?
FQPS is available on Google Play for Android phones and tablets. The iOS app for iPhone and iPad is coming soon. Until it launches, Apple device users can use the FQPS browser platform with access determined by their account and plan.
Use an internet connection for account access, content and syncing. For current device and access details, check the app page.
Can SQE audiobooks replace questions and mocks?
You still need opportunities to make decisions and review the results. SQE1 uses scenario questions, while SQE2 requires practical legal work. Listening alone does not show how you perform those tasks. Use audio to support your preparation, then protect time for the practice your assessment requires.
Before a longer mock session, check its format and make time for the review. After the mock, use the mistakes to choose your next revision topic. Our free SQE1 resource guide gives you a starting plan, and the SQE prep app checklist helps you evaluate the wider tools.
