SQE2 tests skills, so the course worth paying for is the one that gives you the most practice marked by a solicitor. Here is how to judge one, the SRA's own pass rates, and the lowest-priced option for each need.

What is the best SQE2 course?
There is no single best SQE2 course, but there is a good test for one: SQE2 assesses skills, so a course should give you plenty of practice under exam conditions, with feedback from a solicitor on the oral and the written stations. Count the marked mocks and check who marks them. FQPS SQE2 Preparation includes 6 live 1:1 mocks a month marked by a solicitor for £189, which is £31.50 a mock: the lowest price per human-marked SQE2 mock we found among the main SQE providers. If an employer is paying for a university programme, Nottingham Law School (NTU), Middlesex University, BPP University Law School, The University of Law (ULaw) charge from £3,500 to £5,000.

Six things a good SQE2 course gives you
They hold for any provider, FQPS included. SQE2 has 16 assessments, 4 oral and 12 written, across 5 practice areas, with one pass mark for the whole exam.
1. Mocks marked by a person
SQE2 is marked on your skills and your law together. A model answer shows what good looks like; only someone marking your own answer can tell you what you missed.
2. Live oral practice
Client interviews and advocacy are live in the exam. Practise them live, with someone playing the client or the judge, and get feedback straight after.
3. All four written skills, timed
Case and matter analysis, legal research, legal writing and legal drafting, in each practice area, at exam timing.
4. The law, not only the skills
SQE2 assesses the law of five practice areas. A good course keeps your SQE1 knowledge fresh while you practise the skills.
5. Feedback you can act on
Written, specific and soon after the mock, so the next attempt is better than the last.
6. The total cost for your timeline
Multiply a monthly price by the months you need, then compare it with one-off course fees and with what each includes.
SQE2 pass rates, sitting by sitting
The SRA publishes a pass rate for every sitting. Most candidates pass SQE2 in the end: across the first 12 SQE2 sittings, up to July 2025, 85% of everyone who attempted it had passed. The aim is to pass first time, and that is where marked practice counts.

FQPS is a strong fit if you
- want as many live mocks marked by a solicitor as you can fit in, at £31.50 each;
- are paying for your own preparation and want to pay monthly, with no course fee;
- need to keep the SQE1 law fresh while you practise the skills;
- are working alongside your preparation, and want a mentor you can reach until 8pm on weekdays (why students choose FQPS).
Look elsewhere if you
- have an employer paying for a university programme with a timetable and a campus (university programmes);
- want a series of live group classes on the SQE2 skills (live teaching);
