"The Solicitors Qualifying Examination (SQE) is a single, rigorous assessment for all aspiring solicitors. The SQE will mean that everyone who becomes a solicitor will meet the same high standards in a consistent way."
Registration Process
The registration process for the SQE involves three steps:
Registration
Register at the SQE website with the SRA and Kaplan. You’ll need a valid photo ID at this point (e.g. a passport, photo driving licence, or government-issued ID).
Pre-booking
Once you’ve registered, you need to pre-book. This involves completing a diversity survey (not mandatory), telling the SRA about any SQE exemptions you might have, and requesting any reasonable adjustments you’ll require to sit your exams.
Booking with Pearson VUE
The computer-based SQE1 exam takes place at a number of test centres around the world. Once you’ve registered and pre-booked, you need to sign in to your SQE account online to view the assessment centres available to you. Choose your preferred location and book your space.
Please note that you will need to go through the pre-booking process for both SQE1 and SQE2 separately. You can only pre-book and book SQE2 once you’ve passed SQE1 (unless you are exempt from SQE1).
SQE Exam Results & Fees
SQE Exam Fees
The cost to take SQE1 is £1,798 and for SQE2 it is £2,766.
SQE Assessment Results
You will receive your SQE assessment results by email directly from Kaplan. SQE1 assessment results will be made available by Kaplan within 5-6 weeks after the examination date, while SQE2 results become available within 14-18 weeks following the exam.
Popular Questions to Ask Before Register
Yes, if you do not pass the SQE exam, you can retake it. However, there are limits on the number of attempts you can make within a certain timeframe. It's important to prepare thoroughly to increase your chances of passing on the first attempt.
The SQE exam is divided into two parts: SQE1 focuses on functioning legal knowledge, while SQE2 tests practical legal skills. Both parts include multiple-choice questions, and SQE2 also includes practical assessments such as client interviews and advocacy.
The preparation time for the SQE exam varies depending on your background knowledge and study schedule. On average, it might take about 9-12 months to prepare for both stages of the SQE exams.
The pass rate for the SQE exam varies from year to year and can depend on a variety of factors, including the difficulty of the exam and the preparation of the candidates. It's important to note that thorough preparation is key to passing the SQE exam. You can find more informations about pass rates here : About SQE Exam
