Free SQE1 revision resources are most useful when they give you a clear next task. Start with the official assessment specification, use sample questions to understand the standard, then build a routine around practice, explanations and recall. This guide shows what you can use without buying a course, what a free FQPS account includes and how to organise your first seven days.
- Official starting point: the SRA publishes its SQE1 specification and sample questions free.
- Free FQPS practice: one full FLK1 mock and one full FLK2 mock, plus five daily practice questions and ten daily flashcards.
- Plan your week: use the sample syllabus and seven-day study plan, then record what your practice reveals.
- On your phone: FQPS is available on Android. iOS is coming soon; iPhone and iPad users can start in their browser.
We explain our own free resources below, alongside official material. The aim is to help you build a useful starting routine and see where you may need more coverage or support.
Which free SQE1 revision resources should you use first?
| Resource | Use it for | Know its limits |
|---|---|---|
| Official SQE1 specification | Building your topic checklist and understanding assessment scope. | A specification sets requirements; it does not teach the syllabus. |
| Official SQE1 sample questions | Seeing how the assessment presents problems and answer options. | A limited sample cannot establish readiness across the whole syllabus. |
| FQPS free mocks | Trying a longer FLK1 and FLK2 practice session and reviewing gaps. | One mock credit per FLK is included at free signup; these are not recurring monthly credits. |
| FQPS daily questions and flashcards | Maintaining a small, repeatable practice and recall routine. | Free allowances are five questions and ten flashcards per day. |
| FQPS free downloads and tools | Adding focused guides and practical planning resources. | Individual guides address specific topics rather than replacing a complete course. |
Choose one source for your topic list and one place to record mistakes. Collecting several folders of notes is less useful than knowing which topic you will practise tomorrow and why you have chosen it.
How to use official SQE1 sample questions
The SRA’s free sample questions help you inspect the way a problem is framed. Answer a small set before consulting the answers, then review the decisions you made. Note which fact led you towards the wrong option and what you would need to notice next time.
Keep this material separate from provider questions in your notes. Label the source and the topic so you can return to the right explanation. Once you recognise a question, its result becomes less informative: remembering the answer is different from working out a new problem.
For each mistake, finish this sentence: “I chose ___ because I thought ___; the fact I needed to notice was ___.” If you cannot complete it, revisit the explanation before adding more questions.
What does a free FQPS account include?
You can create a free FQPS account and start with the following access. The Android app is free to download; full course materials and additional features depend on your plan.
Use the mocks deliberately. If you have covered enough material to attempt one meaningfully, reserve a block of time and work without your notes. If you are at the beginning of your preparation, start with the sample syllabus and daily practice, then choose when a longer attempt will tell you something useful.
For either approach, set aside review time. A mock score without an error review leaves you with a number and little direction. Sort errors into missing knowledge, misreading, uncertainty between options and time pressure. Those categories suggest different next steps.
A free seven-day SQE1 revision plan
This is a suggested first week, not a timetable for completing SQE1. Adapt it to the topics you have already studied and the time you can protect. The short sessions use the free daily allowances; longer sessions are additional blocks you schedule yourself.
| Day | Short session | What to record |
|---|---|---|
| 1 · Map | Read the specification and mark topics as familiar, partly familiar or new. | One manageable topic to begin with. |
| 2 · Apply | Answer your five daily questions and review every explanation. | Wrong answers and uncertain correct answers. |
| 3 · Recall | Use ten flashcards, then explain yesterday’s weakest rule without notes. | What you could recall accurately. |
| 4 · Repair | Revisit a gap in your existing notes or available sample material, then practise. | The rule and the fact that affects its application. |
| 5 · Compare | Try a small set of official samples and inspect how you chose your answers. | What the unfamiliar questions exposed. |
| 6 · Review | Return to your error log. Schedule a mock if appropriate to your stage. | The next topic needing a longer session. |
| 7 · Plan | Review the week and choose next week’s study blocks. | A specific task for each available block. |
A working candidate might do the short session at lunch and reserve evenings for learning. A full-time candidate could use it as a warm-up before longer work. In both cases, make the record simple enough that you will continue using it.
Copy this SQE1 mistake log
Topic: [area of law]
My answer and confidence: [option; confident / uncertain / guess]
What I missed: [rule, fact, exception or reading error]
Correct reasoning: [two sentences in my own words]
Next action: [revision section, fresh question or clarification]
Revisit: [a date in my study plan]
Track uncertain correct answers too. A lucky selection can hide a knowledge gap. On your next review, explain the reasoning before checking your note; if you still need the note, keep the topic in your plan.

Can you prepare for SQE1 using only free resources?
Free resources can help you understand the assessment, establish a routine and evaluate teaching materials. Whether they are enough for your preparation depends on your starting knowledge, access to current learning materials, coverage of the syllabus and ability to identify and repair mistakes.
Check what you are missing before spending money. You may need fuller teaching materials, more varied practice, feedback or a structured course. If repeated practice exposes a gap you cannot resolve, address that gap directly rather than adding another free question source.
