Official facts and product information checked on 18 October 2026.
The April 2027 SQE2 window extends into May, with more than one written and oral sitting. That makes it important to plan around your own allocation rather than the month in the assessment name. This guide separates the dates already published from the booking details still to be confirmed, then shows how to turn your intended sitting into a workable preparation plan.
- Seat reservation forms are scheduled for 5 January 2027, with a submission deadline of 8 January. Recheck the official instructions before acting.
- The published window includes written sittings in April and May; candidates do not attend every listed sitting.
- The final booking-close date and results date were still TBC when this draft was checked.

Use the official dates page and your booking confirmation to establish which dates apply to you. The first day of the whole assessment window is 20 April; that is not necessarily the first day of your own assessments.
What is known about booking, and what is not?
The published seat reservation dates are 5β8 January 2027. As checked on 18 October 2026, the final booking closing date and April results date were not yet confirmed on the official table. Do not replace βTBCβ with an estimate based on a previous sitting. Payment and booking instructions may also depend on your candidate route.
Start with your official SQE account and complete the required pre-booking steps. If you need reasonable adjustments, use the official process and allow time for it. An article can help you organise the steps, but your individual instructions and the current official booking page control what you must do.
If you are waiting for January SQE1 results
The published January SQE1 results date is 9 March 2027, after the January seat reservation period for April SQE2. Do not assume the January reservation process is available to someone who has not yet passed SQE1 and has no approved exemption. The official dates page explains that later seats may facilitate progression after SQE1 results, subject to availability and further guidance.
Use that uncertainty in your plan. You can explore the SQE2 tasks and assess what preparation would require without treating an April place as guaranteed. Recheck the official booking route after results before making a time-sensitive commitment. Compare readiness, work commitments and a later sitting as separate decisions.
Use the correct law cut-off
The published April-window cut-off is 20 December 2026. It applies to the window even though some candidatesβ appointments fall in May. Mark the date on your revision plan and check relevant materials against the specification and the law applicable to that window. A later personal appointment does not create a separate cut-off date.
If your resources discuss a legal change, check whether they identify when it takes effect and which version of the rule the assessment requires. Keep uncertainty visible and resolve it using a reliable source or appropriate teaching support. Avoid building flashcards from an undated summary simply because it appears in a recent search result.
Build the plan around tasks, not only topics
For each available week, identify work on practical outputs as well as legal knowledge. A reader may understand a rule but still need to practise explaining advice clearly, producing a document or responding to a clientβs account. Choose a task that makes that gap visible rather than repeatedly rereading the same material.
- Confirm the intended sitting and any current booking route.
- Map the six assessed skills against the practice you have actually attempted.
- Identify the materials and timing for the next task.
- Reserve separate review time and record a specific improvement target.
- Recheck official dates and instructions before payment or travel commitments.
Use self-practice deliberately
The official samples are a useful starting point for understanding task format and reviewing performance. Attempt an unfamiliar task before opening the discussion of the answer if you want an independent record. Guided learning is also useful, but should be labelled as such.
Explore FQPS self-assessment mocks for further structured practice. Select the mode and duration appropriate to the task, keep learning aids closed for an independent timed attempt and use feedback to choose the next session. FQPS is an independent provider; use official platform practice as well for interface familiarity.
Check the official dates page again. Booking details can be published after this draft was prepared; an unconfirmed date stays unconfirmed until the SRA publishes it.
