Job Description

Paralegal - Court of Protection (Top 100 UK Law Firm)

My client are currently recruiting for Court of Protection Paralegals based in Manchester City Centre. This is an exceptional opportunity to join a top 100 UK law firm and progress your career. Must have prior experience in the Court of Protection department.

These opportunities have arisen due to continued growth of new work in the Court of Protection team and so the roles would be to support a file handler managing new deputyships from receipt of deputy appointment Order, with exciting opportunities to progress as the role and team continues to grow.

The role will involve:

  • Carrying out work on a broad range of property & financial affairs deputyship (arising from both personal injury and clinical negligence and/or from the Office of the Public Guardian panel and local authorities).
  • Grade D and/or Grade C work (depending on prior experience), within a sub-team within the wider department. Supporting the file handlers (along with the other paralegals) with their deputyship cases, as well as the opportunity to file handle themselves if experienced in CoP or with support and training to advance to this.
  • Day to day contact with clients, dealing with their individual lifestyle requirements, providing practical advice and supporting and protecting their needs on a wide range of issues including financial planning, management of their funds and assets and care arrangements.
  • Working with families, professional advisers, social services and local authorities, care providers, government bodies, benefits agencies, financial institutions, and other professional bodies.
  • Making regular payments to clients and third parties, keeping accurate schedules of income and expenditure, forecasting future spending and creating and maintaining budgets.

The successful candidate should be able to demonstrate:

  • A commitment to excellent client care and enthusiasm for court of protection work.
  • Excellent IT skills particularly with experience in Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate well orally and in writing, including dealing directly with clients when required.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Exceptional organisational skills.
  • Numerate.
  • Strong team working ethic.
  • Effective administrative skills.

The ideal candidate would be able to demonstrate experience in court of protection work. Otherwise, we welcome applications from related, non-legal backgrounds including social work, community care, payroll, accounts etc.

This opportunity is to join a Court of Protection (CoP) department who are nationally recognised as one of the largest, specialist and most diversified CoP teams in the country.

To apply, please email your cv to oscar@ljwsolutions.com, if this role isn't for you but you are in the legal sector, feel free to reach out about other opportunities I'm currently recruiting for.
