LBE Legal and Democratic Services are looking for a permanent housing paralegal to support the work of the Housing and Social Care team. You will report to the Senior Lawyer (Housing) and be part of an enthusiastic and knowledgeable team. You will be responsible for a varied and interesting caseload.

PURPOSE OF ROLE

  • To issue possession proceedings in respect of premises provided as temporary accommodation and premises occupied by unauthorised occupiers following termination of a secure tenancy.
  • To have conduct of defended and undefended matters and to represent the Council unsupervised before the Court, including on applications to suspend warrants or set aside orders.
  • To provide legal advice, assistance and guidance to Officers in Landlord Services and Housing Demand (i.e. Income Services/Tenancy Management/Temporary Accommodation) on matters relating to the possession proceedings detailed above.
  • To have conduct of claims under the Pre-Action Protocol for Housing Conditions

ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

GSCE or equivalent in Maths and English or relevant work experience

Educated to degree level or equivalent or relevant work experience

Any offer of a position shall be subject to a Criminal Records Bureau statement and DBS checks. The post is suitable for a job share.
