Job Description

Paralegal | Litigation Career Progression

HD Law | Manchester | £24,000 per annum
Full-time | Permanent | Monday to Friday | Office Based

You've earned your law degree. Now build the career you've been working towards.

Are you an ambitious law graduate looking to develop a career in law and ultimately qualify as a solicitor?

HD Law is looking for a motivated Paralegal with the potential to progress towards becoming a Litigation Solicitor.

You'll gain hands-on experience supporting live legal matters, working directly with clients and developing the skills needed to build a successful career in litigation.

Why join HD Law?

We're not just involved in consumer litigation. We've helped shape it.

Established in 2015 and based in Manchester's Spinningfields, HD Law specialises in consumer protection, financial mis-selling and litigation.

Our work includes significant cases reaching the UK Supreme Court, including the landmark 2025 judgment in Johnson v FirstRand Bank, in which HD Law represented Mr Johnson.

Our Director, Kevin Durkin, is a Solicitor-Advocate with more than 23 years of litigation experience, including proceedings before the Court of Appeal and Supreme Court.

For an aspiring solicitor, this is an opportunity to learn within a firm with genuine litigation credentials.

The opportunity

You'll join our specialist motor finance claims team, supporting live cases involving PCP agreements, financial mis-selling and undisclosed commission.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Managing client enquiries.
  • Preparing and reviewing legal correspondence and case documentation.
  • Liaising with lenders and progressing outstanding matters.
  • Reviewing evidence and identifying missing information.
  • Maintaining accurate case records and monitoring deadlines.
  • Supporting colleagues with case preparation and claims progression.

You'll develop practical experience in legal processes, client care and case management while contributing to a busy litigation team.

What we're looking for

Essential:

  • A completed law degree or recognised law conversion qualification.
  • A genuine ambition to become a Litigation Solicitor.
  • Practical experience handling client or customer enquiries and maintaining records or processing documents.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent attention to detail, organisation and IT skills.
  • A proactive attitude and willingness to learn.

Desirable:

  • Previous paralegal or legal support experience.
  • Exposure to litigation, claims handling or consumer law.
  • Completed or ongoing LPC or SQE studies.

Previous PCP claims experience is not required. Relevant experience from legal placements, law clinics or customer-facing employment will also be considered.

Your future with HD Law

We're looking for someone who wants more than their first legal job.

You'll have the opportunity to develop your legal knowledge, take on greater responsibility and demonstrate your potential within an established specialist firm.

For the right individual, there is potential for future progression towards a Litigation Solicitor position, subject to performance, qualification requirements and business needs.

This position does not guarantee a training contract, SQE funding or qualification.

What we offer

  • £24,000 starting salary.
  • Permanent, full-time employment.
  • Monday to Friday, five days in our Manchester office.
  • Company pension.
  • Practical experience supporting live legal claims.
  • Exposure to specialist consumer litigation.
  • Potential for professional development and longer-term progression.

Ready to build your legal career?

Not every law graduate gets the opportunity to start their career at a firm with Supreme Court litigation experience.

If you're ambitious, detail-focused and serious about becoming a Litigation Solicitor, we'd like to hear from you.

Apply today with your CV and tell us why litigation is the career you want to pursue.

Pay: £24,000.00 per year

Benefits:

  • Company pension

Application question(s):

  • Have you completed a law degree or recognised postgraduate law conversion qualification?
  • Are you willing to accept the advertised starting salary of £24,000 per annum?
  • Can you work full-time, Monday to Friday, at our Manchester M3 office, five days per week, without any hybrid or remote working arrangements?
  • Do you have practical experience communicating directly with clients or customers by telephone and email, gained through employment, a placement or legal clinic?
  • Why are you interested in developing a career in law, and what attracts you to HD Law specifically?
  • Can you briefly describe a time when you handled client enquiries, managed important documents and maintained accurate records while working in a target-driven environment? What were your key responsibilities, and how did you ensure accuracy, confidentiality and deadlines were maintained?
