Do law firms prefer the LPC or SQE?

One of 78 answers in the FQPS Academy SQE FAQ library, covering how to qualify as a solicitor in England and Wales.

For anyone qualifying now the question no longer really arises: the LPC is closed to new entrants, and candidates who do not meet the SRA's transitional requirements must qualify through the SQE. The LPC route stays open until 31 December 2032 for those who already meet those requirements, but most providers have stopped offering the course and only a few are authorised to deliver it in 2026/27. Regardless of the route, firms will continue to hire students who perform well in their chosen path.
