Job role: Paralegal

Location: Romsey, Hampshire (including options for hybrid working)

Hours: Part-time, anticipated 2 or 3 days per week

Reporting to: Group Deputy General Counsel

Salary: £25,000 pro-rata

Job description: This is a corporate role, directly accountable to the Group Deputy General Counsel, for the provision of a range of compliance and legal services and advice to the Group’s businesses, to ensure that the Group is compliant with its statutory obligations. The job holder will work within a small legal and company secretarial team.

Main responsibilities

1. Assisting with the Group’s compliance with the UK Bribery Act 2010, through supporting the Group’s Bribery Act compliance processes under Chemring’s Bribery Act Compliance Manual (“BACM”). This is to ensure the compliance with BACM by all of the Group’s businesses, including but not limited to:

a) Assisting with the management and running of Chemring’s online Compliance Portal (the “CCP”) which automates the processes under BACM for appointing third parties. This will include providing user support in respect of the CCP and BACM related queries, advising on due diligence requirement and third-party vetting in accordance with BACM, dealing with any third-party queries received and refusals to comply with BACM processes, generating reports for the Group’s businesses as required, and providing general advice and assistance in respect of the daily running of the CCP.

b) Providing advice on the application of BACM to the businesses.

c) Assisting with Chemring Group’s Head Office’s compliance with BACM, its accompanying CCP obligations, and general third-party onboarding processes including carrying out appropriate due diligence.

d) Assisting in ensuring that all Group businesses receive appropriate training on BACM and the CCP.

e) Managing the CCP user-data collection and uploading processes across all Group businesses.

f) Assisting with BACM and CCP internal audits of the Group’s businesses and helping to address any remedial actions or training requirements identified during the audits.

2. Assisting with the Group’s compliance with the General Data Protection Regulations and the UK Data Protection Act 2018.

3. Carrying out research on new UK legislation which may impact the Group.

4. Drafting, reviewing and amending standard simple legal documents and contracts, including non-disclosure agreements, on behalf of the Group’s businesses.

5. Assisting with developing, providing and implementing training, both through online courses issued via the CCP and in-person, on legal and compliance matters as required.

6. Assisting on corporate projects as required.

7. Assisting with other compliance processes and activities as required.

8. Providing administration support and assistance as required.

Knowledge, skills and experience required

  • Up-to-date knowledge of all aspects of the law relevant to the job;
  • Willingness to work flexibly within a small team;
  • An ability to work independently and be self-sufficient;
  • A can-do attitude;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills; and
  • Accuracy and an eye for detail.

Due to the nature of this position, as a minimum we require BPSS (Baseline Personnel Security Standard) security clearance which will be carried out as part of the recruitment process.
