Job Title: US Immigration Paralegal

Working For: NNU Immigration Limited

Location: Eccleston Square, Victoria, London SW1V with option to work remotely three days a week

Reports to: Partners and Senior Paralegal

Job Purpose: Assist and provide a range of legal and administrative support to the firm's immigration attorneys, a senior paralegal and the firm legal operations director. The successful candidate will have a particular focus on the investor visa category but will be expected to undertake a variety of other tasks as and when required. This is a position for an exceptional candidate with a UK or US legal background, excellent writing and critical thinking skills, superb administrative skills, outstanding customer care skills, and a top academic background. We are looking for a candidate who is a team player, a problem solver, an independent thinker, and someone who is resourceful, energetic, and genuinely interested in being a part of our team.

The Role

Key Responsibilities and Duties

The responsibilities of the position are both legal and administrative. They will include:

Legal Duties:

  • Drafting professional and accurate applications to be presented to US Embassies and United States Citizenship and Immigration Service on behalf of clients.
  • Managing a caseload with differing and variable deadlines under the guidance of partners and senior paralegal.
  • Identifying legal and practical issues associated with each case and the appropriate action to be taken at each stage, bearing in mind proposed timelines.
  • Correspond in a professional manner with a range of clients and be able to manage client expectations by discussing matters on the phone and via email.
  • Assist on the entirety of cases as well as ‘ad hoc’ duties for any given matter.
  • Write legally accurate letters of advice summarizing complex legal principles in a clear manner.
  • Produce accurate attendance notes documenting telephone calls and meetings.
  • Produce accurate and clear summaries of research results to other members of the team.
  • Create and update legal precedents for the firm including immigration questionnaires, general informative letters, and template support letters.
  • Field calls from prospective clients; ask relevant questions and gather relevant information for attorney analysis.
  • Schedule consultation meetings for clients and explain charging structure.
  • Research USCIS, US Embassy London as well as overseas procedures and practices by using electronic legal databases, primary sources, and relevant consulate and embassy websites.

General / Administrative duties:

  • Preparing application packages for submission to government agencies.
  • Attending weekly immigration meetings (internal).
  • Photocopying and scanning documents.
  • Amending letters.
  • Opening and closing files.
  • Arranging postage and courier services.
  • Adding and updating contacts on our database.
  • Maintaining and organizing client files (physical files and electronic files).

Person Specification:

The successful applicant will possess the following skills and qualities:

  • A university degree with a strong academic background.
  • A spirit of co-operation and a positive attitude.
  • The ability and experience of working in a small team.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • The ability to relate and communicate to clients and people at all levels.
  • Self-motivation and the ability to work independently to strict deadlines.
  • Faultless spelling and grammar.
  • The ability to effectively prioritize and administer tasks as well as a flexibility to do occasional work outside of office hours.
  • A desire to take ownership of their case load and use initiative even while under pressure.
  • An excellent understanding in all Microsoft office packages and office technology including image manipulation, diagram creation and file conversion skills.

This role is ideal for a top law graduate interested in getting a significant amount of practical, hand-on experience while gaining exposure to a fascinating area of the law.
