Background
An opportunity has arisen for a Paralegal to join our Dispute Resolution department.

The Dispute Resolution department at Hugh James is ranked by both Chambers and Legal 500 directories as one of the premier litigation departments in Wales and beyond. The department provides legal advice to clients across a wide spectrum of commercial disputes.

The role
This role arises in our Commercial Litigation and Professional Negligence disputes teams who act for individuals and multi-national organisations covering anything from contractual disputes, insolvency, professional negligence and intellectual property disputes.

The role will involve supporting the team with a varied caseload of general commercial litigation files dealing with a variety of issues such as contract and tortious disputes, intellectual property and information technology disputes, insolvency as well as defamation and pension claims. You will also be required to assist with work across the wider Dispute Resolution department as required.

Duties to include:

  • Dealing with telephone enquiries from clients
  • Drafting ‘letters before action’
  • Assisting in complex litigation to include preparation of lists of disclosure
  • Updating clients as to the progress of their claims
  • Preparing trial bundles
  • Attending court instructing counsel and at interlocutory hearings
  • Researching points of law

Skills & Qualifications
  • Law degree or equivalent experience
  • High levels of motivation and organisation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Good levels of IT literacy (we use a range of specialist software)
  • An enjoyment of team work
